Supplier to the EU
Canada
In June 2026, Canada supplied 416 kt of crude oil to EU countries (1.1% of EU crude imports), mainly to France, Germany and Belgium.
In June 2026, Canada supplied 47 kt of refined products to EU countries (0.2% of EU imports of the seven refined-product families we track), mainly to Poland, Denmark and Sweden.

- Official: reported by the statistical authority.
Basis: energy statistics. All volumes are on the energy basis: the country where the oil was produced, as each EU member state reports its imports to Eurostat (dataset nrg_ti_oilm). "EU imports" is the sum of what the member states reported importing from everywhere, including from each other and the part they did not attribute to any country.
July 2026 is not used yet: only 7 of 27 member states have reported their crude oil imports for it.
Estimated, not published: Finland withheld crude import tonnes for 2026-06; the figures shown for them are estimated from published euro values and are not part of the energy-basis totals.
- Finland, June 2026: an estimated 91 kt, from a published €50,596,977 at €556 per tonne. Not included in the chart or the totals.
- Volumes are what EU member states reported importing, by the country where the oil was produced (Eurostat nrg_ti_oilm, energy basis). They are not the partner's own export statistics, and a member state that did not list the partner has not reported a zero.
- "EU imports" is the sum of the 27 member states' reported imports, including imports from each other; it is not the EU's external trade.

Canada's crude inside EU fuel
EstimatedBy our estimate, crude from Canada is most present in the road diesel of Finland (3%), Germany (3%) and Luxembourg (3%), as a share of the crude behind each country's road diesel in June 2026. This is an estimate built from trade and refinery statistics, not a reported figure.
Share: the estimated share of the crude behind each EU country’s fuel that came from Canada. All bars share one scale. Untraceable: the share of that country’s fuel whose crude cannot be traced to any origin.

Strait of Hormuz route
OfficialEvery cited export point for Canada's crude and products is outside the Persian Gulf: none needs the Strait of Hormuz.
Export points held for Canada (2)
| Export point | Water body | Carries | Route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Newfoundland Transshipment Limited terminal, Whiffen Head | Placentia Bay (Atlantic coast) | crude | Outside the Gulf: no Hormuz transit |
| Westridge Marine Terminal (Trans Mountain pipeline outlet, Burnaby BC) | Burrard Inlet (Pacific coast) | crude and products | Outside the Gulf: no Hormuz transit |

Crude and products: All cited export points lie outside the Persian Gulf: Westridge Marine Terminal on Burrard Inlet (Pacific) and the Newfoundland Transshipment terminal at Whiffen Head, Placentia Bay (Atlantic). The Strait of Hormuz is the sole outlet of the Persian Gulf, so the Hormuz-requiring share is 0 by geographic construction, not by estimate. Cited: docs.transmountain.com, gov.nl.ca. - The Hormuz route describes where the partner loads oil, from cited reference data. Where it loads both inside and outside the Persian Gulf, the split is unknown and only a range is given.
