Counted by the country the cargo was shipped from, as customs record it. Transit hubs such as the Netherlands therefore appear as sources; for crude oil, the default view counts by the country of production instead.
In January–July 2026, Italy imported 28.0 million tonnes of crude oil, most from Libya (27%), Azerbaijan (12%) and the United States (10%). Its refined-product imports were 7.9 million tonnes, most from Saudi Arabia (29%), Algeria (13%) and the Netherlands (8%).
