Counted by the country the cargo was shipped from, as customs record it. Transit hubs such as the Netherlands therefore appear as sources; for crude oil, the default view counts by the country of production instead.
In 2019, Spain imported 66.7 million tonnes of crude oil, most from Nigeria (16%), Mexico (14%) and Libya (13%). Its refined-product imports were 16.5 million tonnes, most from Russia (16%), the United States (14%) and Italy (11%).
