Counted by the country the cargo was shipped from, as customs record it. Transit hubs such as the Netherlands therefore appear as sources; for crude oil, the default view counts by the country of production instead.
In 2025, Spain imported 61.8 million tonnes of crude oil, most from the United States (16%), Brazil (13%) and Mexico (12%). Its refined-product imports were 14.9 million tonnes, most from Italy (24%), the United States (15%) and Kuwait (9%).
