Counted by the country the cargo was shipped from, as customs record it. Transit hubs such as the Netherlands therefore appear as sources; for crude oil, the default view counts by the country of production instead.
In 2018, France imported 52.7 million tonnes of crude oil, most from Russia (19%), Saudi Arabia (15%) and Kazakhstan (11%). Its refined-product imports were 37.5 million tonnes, most from Russia (15%), Saudi Arabia (14%) and the United States (9%).
