Counted by the country the cargo was shipped from, as customs record it. Transit hubs such as the Netherlands therefore appear as sources; for crude oil, the default view counts by the country of production instead.
In 2017, France imported 57.8 million tonnes of crude oil, most from Russia (17%), Kazakhstan (15%) and Iran (12%). Its refined-product imports were 36.6 million tonnes, most from Russia (15%), the United States (11%) and the Netherlands (11%).
