Counted as the country reports it in its energy statistics: crude oil by the country where it was produced, refined products by the country they were last shipped from, which may be a trading hub rather than where they were refined.
In 2015, France imported 56.7 million tonnes of crude oil, most from Saudi Arabia (19%), Kazakhstan (14%) and Nigeria (12%). Its refined-product imports were 36.9 million tonnes, most from Russia (19%), the United States (12%) and the Netherlands (10%).

Yearly figures are the sum of the published monthly tonnes over the months with a published figure; shares are each origin’s tonnes over that sum.
